Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Asbestos Surveyor to join our team based in the Midlands. The salary on offer is from £33,000 - £38,000 with £3,000 Car allowance.

Main purpose / scope of the role  

NHSPS have many buildings for which they are the Duty holder in respect of Asbestos Management. The portfolio of properties is varied from small GP surgeries to Community Hospitals and in order to manage the estate effectively NHSPS wish to update all the Asbestos Management Surveys. 

The key remit of the role will be to conduct suitable and sufficient Asbestos Management Surveys as part of a defined project. In some cases, it may be necessary to complete a Refurbishment and Demolition Survey to facilitate future works, but this will be under the direction of the Project Lead and will require approval. The remit will consist of:  

  • To undertake asbestos management surveys to a defined programme. 
  • Carry out detailed inspections of buildings to identify asbestos containing materials, including residues of previous asbestos removal activities. 
  • To take bulk samples as required in accordance with HSG264, accurately labelled and with detailed notes. Make good as appropriate. 
  • Be up to date with asbestos legislation, guidance and industry best practice including a knowledge of UKAS accreditation and quality managements arrangements. 
  • Work in a professional manner within the health care premises being mindful that areas of the building will be in use providing care to patients and access to visitors.  

Key Responsibilities  

  • To complete full and thorough management surveys of NHS PS buildings as required in the project plan. 
  • To produce accurate, clear, and concise documentation relating to buildings and sample locations. 
  • Accurately record sample information onto sample bags. 
  • Ensure all areas and asbestos containing materials are photographed. 
  • Produce accurate electronic site plans, where necessary and accurately record all sample locations and material extent onto final plans. 
  • To have the skills to operate in areas which are required for the delivery of clinical services. 
  • Have a professional approach and be mindful of occupants in adjacent areas. 
  • Work closely with the Facilities Co-oordinator / manager to ensure that every area of the building is covered and recorded on the survey. 
  • To produce accurate survey documents for all buildings. 
  • To complete risk profiles of buildings based on the material score and access requirements. 
  • Work closely with the National Lead (Asbestos & Construction) to ensure the project is completed the timescale. 
  • Proactive in ensuring the project is delivered on time escalating issues as required. 
  • Travel to various sites as identified in the project plan.
