Job Description

NHS Property Services have a fantastic opportunity for a Health & Safety Specialist Trainer based in the South of England Region. The role attracts a starting salary of between £51,300 - 55,500, with a Car Allowance, Bonus, Pension & 27 days Holiday.

The Health & Safety Specialist Trainer, whilst reporting directly to the National Health & Safety Lead-Training, will have responsibility for the delivery of the Health & Safety training programme mostly across the southern areas in which they are based, though National travel may be required. There may also be opportunities to contribute to the development and delivery of bespoke training courses.

Delivery of ‘mandated courses’ will be a high priority along with responding to the need to support service delivery. This will require working closely with the Area Health & Safety Managers and other senior managers across the organisation. Training should support the implementation of NHSPS’ Health & Safety Strategy, Training Plan and Health and Safety Plan.

We would prefer that candidates have their PGCE, however would also welcome candidates with a Level 3 PETALS/PTTLS or L4 CEL along with experience within a Health & Safety Training role.

Most weeks will see you conducting training 2-3 days per week, and the rest of your time can be based either at home, or at one of our local hubs.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Working with the National Lead for Health & Safety -Training, develop an annual National Health & Safety training plan, based on Area and National requirements.
  • Deliver Health & Safety training, in line with central training plan and agreed presentations, to the Area / Function teams as required.
  • Deliver accredited and certificated courses, including those developed in house e.g. IOSH Managing Safely, First Aid at Work and NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Manage the booking of courses within the Learning and Development Training Platform and support with the booking of training rooms, requests for documentation from external bodies in relation to certificated courses, distributing course materials to delegates and the completion and marking of assessments as required.
  • Consult with awarding bodies.
  • Preparation of all handouts and supporting learning media for courses.
  • Assist in the development and refresh of internal health and safety training courses.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a behavioural safety learning programme.
  • Deploy a range of learning methodologies to support capability development e.g. e-learning, coaching, classroom, blended solutions.
  • Co-ordinate all training and development evaluation data, produce regular reports on the training delivery, progress, and evaluation reports as required by the National Health & Safety Lead - Training. 
  • Develop training statistics and attendance reports for Areas / Functions and Area Health & Safety Forums.
  • Provide data to the National Health & Safety Lead – Training, to enable preparation of reports to the National and Strategic Health & Safety Forums.
  • To work closely with Area Health & Safety Managers and provide Health & Safety advice particularly to Delivery Managers and operational teams, but also across all other Function teams as required, liaising with National Health & Safety Leads, Function / Area Safety Champions and Technical Subject Specialists as required.
  • Contribute to Health & Safety campaigns as required.
  • Ensure the Area and Function has suitable and sufficient Health & Safety information and training available to all NHS Property Services colleagues, including apprentices, part-time and voluntary workers, as required for their job role.
  • Produce communications and training documentation to support procedure releases.
