We have a great opportunity for a Climate Risk & Adaptation Manager to join our team based anywhere in England. The salary on offer is £43,700 - £50,000 with a Car Allowance & Bonus. This is a permanent opportunity offered on a full time basis.

Main purpose / scope of the role
The Climate Risk & Adaptation Manager will be an insightful, methodical individual, with a passion for climate change issues including knowledge of physical and transitional climate risk in businesses and in climate finance. They will form part of the Environment Focus area within the wider Energy & Environment team. The role will report into the Environmental Compliance Manager and will be expected to work dynamically with the other NHSPS directorates such as Risk and Governance, Finance, People Team as well as other Operational teams. The role is a centralised role with the aim to design, deliver and manage climate risks and opportunities, in support of the wider Greener NHS Programme.
The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge and application of strategies in disclosure such as TCFD, adaption and transition planning, net-zero, and science-based targets. The candidate will play a key role in contributing towards a net-zero carbon estate that is fully compliant and adapted for future climate change impacts. This is suited to candidates with either a consultant background or have experience working within financial, banking or investment roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Passionate about sustainability and with a solid technical knowledge around climate change, TCFD, risk assessment and transitioning to a low carbon economy.
- Knowledge of climate, ESG and other related regulatory, supervisory and market (e.g., net zero) drivers is also crucial.
- Have excellent writing and communication skills this will enable you to build good relationships with key members of different directorates.
- Acting as NHSPS’s subject-matter-expert concerning climate risk modelling (both physical risk and transition risk) and climate risk financial impact assessment.
- Managing and implementing applicable directives and regulations i.e., Transition Plan Taskforce, TCFD, TNFD, Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
- Understanding of GHG emissions, sectoral decarbonisation pathways and climate portfolio scenario analysis.
- Managing the implementation and embedding of climate change within risk management frameworks and strategic planning.
- Manage relationships with 3rd party consultants.
- Developing NHSPS Climate Adaptation Management Plan by;
- Undertaking and managing the climate adaptation risk assessment process, i.e., physical and transition risk assessments.
- Developing and translating climate scenarios.
- Engaging with relevant teams to help build structure and resilience to climate change.
- Facilitating training and awareness campaigns to educate and upskill colleagues from the executive management teams to the wider NHSPS colleagues including the facilitation of working groups and workshops.
- Assisting in identifying and setting climate related targets.
- Developing and managing environmental reporting processes to enable TCFD and other associated internal and/or external reporting requirements.
- Providing advice and guidance on implementing TCFD framework recommendations.
- Working across directorates to advice and implement minimum adaptation standards and influencing the supply chain through procurement.
- Developing and managing Adaptation Risk Register.
- Managing any other related project deliverables.
